Nicholas Cawley, Mechanic III for UGI Utilities, helps frame a new home as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania.

Access to affordable housing, food, and safe and healthy environments is the foundation of a healthy community. UGI provides both volunteer and financial support to various programs that assist community members in meeting this basic need. Some of these organizations and programs include Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, United Way, and food banks throughout the communities UGI serves.

Strength, Stability and Shelter

Habitat for Humanity is a national nonprofit organization whose work centers on the vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” The impact of safe and affordable housing goes beyond meeting a basic need for shelter. Affordable homeownership has a positive impact on health, education, family interactions, and more. In addition, Habitat focuses on leveraging volunteers to build and renovate homes to help build investment in the local community.

“Participating in Habitat for Humanity projects is a way for us to give back to the community,” said Nicholas Cawley, Mechanic III for UGI Utilities, son of Wayne Cawley, Sr Supervisor Capital Construction for UGI Utilities. “My dad and I have always looked for ways to participate in construction projects as a way to share some of our skill sets with others and “pay it forward” to those in need. Both being homeowners and knowing the value of having a home, we felt this year’s project was special. Habitat for Humanity provides opportunities for those that may have not had the opportunity to be a homeowner. Working side by side on this project with the future homeowners and the great appreciation they expressed to us as we worked on-site is why we do these projects.”
